Good to Me

When I’m bowed down with sorrow I will lift up Your name
and the foxes in the vineyard will not steal my joy
because You are good to me, good to me

You know as well as I do that life can get hard. For example, just when you think things are going great the “universe” throws a wrench in your plans. We get knocked down a peg or two. Whether it’s bad news, bad circumstance, bad decisions, It’s not fun. At all. And what do we do when this happens? Well, we either break down at that very moment  and yell “Mercy!” or we brush things aside, put our chin down and just push and push, fighting for every step till we get through. I admit that often times, I choose the latter.  Why not fight  the circumstance that has surrounded you and push on? Why not stare the problem in the face,  steam roll it and move on? Sounds kinda heroic  doesn’t it? I mean, doesn’t that seem like the most Christian thing to do? But what I have found about this approach is that we aren’t mean’t to be the hero…

Listen to me brothers and sisters, when you take things into your own hands, you expose something… your weakness. And what does sin like to do in these circumstances? It wants to exploit every bit of weakness you got. It cleverly sends in things like doubt, sorrow, regret, the silent killers. These “foxes” infest and eat up every single resource your vineyard could ever produce. It steals your effectiveness in love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, self control and so on. Whether by tackling your problems by your own power, ignoring them , or just plain giving up, you are letting yourself get robbed of all kinds of goodness that God has gifted you with and there is nothing you can do except cry out…

We cannot do this alone.

And the good news is, is that we are not alone!

God is so good. No matter the circumstance, no matter how much you have been robbed, He remains the faithful giver, comforter, sustainer, and life breather over us. He is the source of our very hope for a better future. He is the source of love that covers and comforts all. He is our source of strength in the weakness that we foolishly rely on. Why are we not tapping in to all that He has ready for us? Why do we seem to think that we do not need Him in every decision we make? These are questions I cannot answer for you. All I can do is seek God on my own behalf. Won’t you take some time today and reflect and all His goodness? Reflect on all that is available to you?  Whether you are in the thick of it or flying high, make Christ the center of all you choose to be. Let these words be an encouragement to you… there is always someone there for you.

Be Blessed!

We’ve only glimpsed, His vast affection
Heard whispers of, His heart and passion
It’s pouring down.

If I am going to be honest here, sometimes I think that He hasn’t done a very good job of blessing me.  Sometimes I think, Is this it? Surely there is more? Surely God loves me enough to fix this issue I’m dealing with? Sometimes I go through my day not expecting anything from God. Though, I completely expect that I can handle whatever I need to handle. Surely I will get it done and make my life better by my own power. Sometimes I refer to my own wisdom then rather ask God. Cause at least I will get an answer to myself quicker than God could get me an answer. Sometimes, I think I can take care of myself better than God could.

I am guilty of this… Are you?

The Bible tells us God is beyond abundant in love and resources. He is infinite in wisdom and justice. And He is ALWAYS right and ALWAYS good. And if we say they believe this then why are some of us stuck in the straight jacket of apathy towards God. Apathy is just like all the other sins in the sense that it doesn’t broadcast that it is present. It sneaks up on you a viper in the grass. It wraps itself around you are starts to choke you until it’s time to strike. By the time you realize it,  it will be to late. If only we can open our eyes. To see it coming. To shake off this apathy.

God has given us a tremendous gift to counter act all of these life paralyzing symptoms. He has given us the ability to have faith through Jesus from the Father. Yes, there will be times of hunger. Yes, there will be times of doubt. Yes, there will be times of hurt and pain but God has promised us, His Children, that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He has promised that He is THE good Father and the good father takes care of His children. I wish I could tell you that there was a fast food way of getting all the answers you need in this life, but there isn’t. The truth is that answers come in there own time, God’s time. And in the meantime, we need to look to Him and have faith that God is everything we could ever need and everything we could ever want. We have only glimpsed His vast affection. We have only heard whispers of His heart and passion. How much more so does He have in store for us! He is ALWAYS GOOD and He is CONSTANTLY pouring His love on us. The only thing holding us back from living like we believe this is our very own unbelief but it can all change right now.

Make a change today.

Be Blessed my friends.

Only King Forever

Unmatched in all Your wisdom
In love and justice You will reign
And every knee will bow
We bring our expectations
Our hope is anchored in Your Name

Expectation is a powerful thing. It can give us the hope of something great to look forward to. It can give us that extra bit of motivation to move on. It can excite us and and make us eager about life. It can give us peace in troubled times. But on the other hand, it can stops us in tracks, make us want to give up and not try. It can nock us down so low that we look at life as some kind of curse. Expectation can guide our actions and attitudes and any situation and it’s got the potential to become a giant in the mind. No matter who you are, we all deal with expectations both positive and negative.

Sooner or later, you will face a situation that will not match your expectations. Depending on what you had in mind, this could be a good thing or bad thing. Often times though, we are slammed with disappointment because life just doesn’t turn out to be what we hoped and dreamed.  We learn this as we grow up. As a child, life is perfect! Our imaginations are running wild! We can do and be who ever we want to be! Our dreams of becoming that astronaut is going to be a piece of cake. But then “reality sets in.” Oh, you mean I can’t just become a superhero if I wanted? People we face in life can actually be mean? That person I really loved doesn’t love me the way I loved them? I have to work to earn money to survive on my own? All of things are harsh have a way stealing away any good expectation we once had. But my question to you is, what are you expecting out of life right now?

Christ presented himself to us in way that showed us what to expect from Him and His Father. He did not hide anything. He showed us that love is the most important thing. He showed us that everyone can be loved  as He was/is loved. He showed us that we should love our neighbors as we love ourselves. He showed us that everlasting life awaits those who put their trust in Him and all things work together for the good of those who love Him. ALL THINGS! What a great expectation to grab onto and cherish.

Honestly, sometimes things won’t add up in your life. You will be left wanting and ultimately unsatisfied with the lemons you get out of life. But if you focus on Christ and all that He is, you will find that He can meet your expectations according to His will. You will find that those lemons you got from life aren’t that bad, especially when Christ can give you the sugar and water to make some sweet lemonade. (metaphorically speaking)

Be Blessed my friends!

Heaven Fall Down

We’re crying out in desperation
Waiting now in expectation
We’re crying out in desperation
For You

Have you ever been to an event of some kind, perhaps a concert of your favorite band, and you ended up getting terrible seats or viewpoint?  You look and look but you just can’t catch a good view of the event. Or maybe you didn’t have enough money to drop on amazing seats. Isn’t it such a bummer that though you made an effort, you just could not get in the right place at the right time.

Last week, I got the opportunity to go to disneyland and stayed late enough to watch the show, Fantasmic. I have never seen it and was really excited about watching it for the first time. Needless to say, it was a great show, but from where I was standing,  I didn’t get to see everything. And that bothered me a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but the bottom line truth is that if I was front and center, I could experience the absolute best the show had to offer.

Our walk with God is very much like this. While God is amazing and infinite in majesty and power, we are still finite and often times lose focus and perspective on all that God has to offer, all that God has to say about life, love, and purpose. My experience at disneyland was a beautiful reminder that before the great might of God, I need to position myself at a vantage point that will allow me to receive the most and best God has to give me today.

And how do we go about achieving this?

I believe it all starts by coming to God in a fashion that is described in the bridge of “Heaven Fall Down”. If we take a posture of desperation, we are acknowledging that God is everything we need to survive, everything we need to live, move and breath. If we truly do this, we are telling ourselves and others around us that God is the source of our very survival and the source of our thriving. Then and only then will our hearts go to Jesus in a way that He can work best in. And my friend, He will work His best in you, if you submit and hunger for all He has to offer. Expect greatness from Jesus. He has proven himself already to us by dying on the cross. From this vantage point, all you can see is the beauty of Jesus and cross. And it is going to change your life.

Be Blessed my friends.

Like A Fire

Let Your presence come and saturate
Every part of me make me new
Let Your Spirit come and move within
Fill me once again cause I need more

We are a peculiar people. We are constantly on the move, constantly searching for some type of fulfillment. Whether that would be relationships, friendships,  a fun time, more money, etc, we are looking for something that could satisfy us completely. It’s like we were born with this hunger in our hearts that motivates us to go out and take in whatever can fill us. And guess what?

It’s wasn’t always like this.

When God first created us, he created us with a purpose and specific design; to worship Him and share in all of His glory.  In the garden, we were set, always being filled with the presence of God, never experiencing pain, sorrow, hate, hunger, or thirst. Always and constantly being satisfied with the life that was given to us. Never doubting, never complaining and always trusting in the creator of the universe, our father. That sure does sound way different from today.

I know that you know what has caused this great change amongst humanity. I know you know that sin wages a constant war in our hearts to distract us from living the way God intended. What I don’t know, is what are you doing about it? Are you letting your hunger and thirst get the best of you by going to all the wrong places for just a taste of fulfillment? All those places that are essentially not of God, not of righteousness? Are you not looking to God as your all in all? The God who satisfies.

It’s hard.

So many things pull at us today and you know it. But take heart, even though the world may be pulling away at you, through Christ Jesus, you can overcome the world. He has laid the foundation down for you to walk freely once again down the path of His righteous in communion with the father personally. This path is straight but it is narrow.

I encourage you to take the risk, face the opposition, and make the tough decisions to stay on the path. Because my brothers and sisters, there you will fill satisfaction like you have never experienced. Just let God reign in your hearts and your yoke will be easy and your burden will be lite.

Be Blessed!

Love Goes On

Through every rise and fall
We are forever Yours
One thing we know is sure
Your love goes on

What a wonderful thing it is to know that through the best moments of you life and through the worst moments of your life, God’s love never leaves us. What a blessed assurance we have that He never fails us, that we can always hope in Him. We have  this amazing confidence and peace knowing that He walks with us, that He knows our weakness and He strengthens us to carry on. That like a loving father, He takes care of us and encourages us to grow. This kind of love is priceless and beyond comprehension. I mean, even reading it sounds a little too good to be true.

So, it’s time to be honest with yourself.

Where are you today? Do you have this confidence and assurance permeating through your life? Are are living your life to the fullest knowing that God is there with you by your side forever? Does this love excite you more that anything and gives you peace to trust in Him?

Or are you, like a good portion of us, feeling lacking? You read the statements above and it does nothing for you. Are you feeling gipped of jaded because maybe you believe God hasn’t loved you the way you wanted? Are you angry with God? Are you just not sure yet that you can trust God with things like your finances, relationships, future, time, and sufferings?

I think we all fit in one of these categories and it is our job, I mean your job, to take some time and honestly look at these questions. I guess the point I am trying to make is that God wants to meet you where you are at no matter where you are at. Won’t you give Him the time of day to speak to you?

If, you do, maybe, just maybe you will find that the first paragraph is too good and it is true.

Be Blessed my Brothers and Sisters!

The ground began to shake
The stone was rolled away
His reckless love could not be overcome
Now death where is your sting?
Our resurrected King
Has rendered you defeated

Have you ever had something weigh your spirit down so much that you felt like you were going to break? Be it, worry, doubt, sorrow, frustration, anger? I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we have all been there. Sometimes certain circumstances are too much for us. We are desperate to find relief but it seems like nothing is good enough. This is a place where Satan wants to keep you, a place of hopelessness. A place where you don’t feel free. A place where you believe the cross has no impact or meaning. This might be a little crazy to say, but have you ever felt like the cross isn’t enough?

If we look honestly at ourselves, we might find that there are times when we believe this to be true… that God is not enough to fix this incredible problem that weighs us so terribly down. It’s times like these that we need to sit down, refocus and look at the real problem. Because believe me, most of the problems we face, though they be external, are actually an internal problem, a heart problem. This is the real issue and has always been the issue.

Where is your heart today? Is it closed to the almighty God? Maybe because you are angry with Him? Or is it so open that you take Him for granted and miss important revelations? What ever condition you are in, it is important for all of us to look at the real weight that was destroyed that day. The real issue that was dealt with when he hung on that cross, the issue of our condemned and broken hearts. This is what God resolved that day. This is one of the greatest works God has done on our behalf. Once we realize this and have Him take hold and fix our hearts, it in turn affects our outlook of our circumstances. You can have freedom and hope in whatever circumstance you are in! He promises this, but only if you let Him.

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Where is your heart today?

Be Blessed!
